In this article, there are some common accompaniment techniques which will enable you to play thousands of folk and country songs. In England, Scotland and Ireland, they entertain themselves by listening to country songs in the days before television. The country music inherits an important quality through its origin in the story songs with which Southern mountain people and their fore bears. Most important element is the song and also you need to have a good voice, good lyrics and guitar accompaniment, only then you can sell a good country song.

There are some simple accompaniment patterns where we can begin first and the progress to accompanying the country songs, then playing in 3/4 time and finally crafting a traditional country solo. Playing a great deal of folk and country guitar is based on a simple accompaniment pattern. First you need to start plucking a single bass note then followed by a downward brush stroke across the highest strings. You need to add a variety by alternating the notes between at least two different low notes. There are many more complicated variations. You will still keep coming back to this pattern, no matter how much fancy stuff you learn. People often call it the boom-chick strum because of the alternating high-low sound of this pattern.

To accompany with this pattern we can now move on to a favorite folk, country and bluegrass song. The most important thing you need to do is to keep the beat going although all the notes in the accompaniment part which are written out to guide you. You should aim at getting more accurate with more experience. Don't worry if sometimes you don't exactly brush exactly the three strings that are indicated, as long it sounds good, ringing strum.
