Cher, the other half of the Sonny and Cher team is now close to 61 at the time of this article writing. In 1999, she was using her Oscar won for Best Actress in 1987's Moonstruck as a doorstop in the bedroom of her palatial Malibu home, she said, especially so her cats could run in and out, and it was the perfect weight to do the job.

At 52 in 1999, she was described as still being a provocative personality. She described herself as being “melancholy, hysterical, childish, strong and unusual. " She was just 16 when she met Sonny Bono in 1969. They began to sing together, married and had one daughter, now around the age of 39.

I will never forget one of their greatest hits, “I Got You Babe. " It seemed as though they were a pair that would never separate, but they did.

Cher was born Cherilyn Sarkistian, an El Centro, California high school dropout. She described her life as happening in really big swings, either high or low. She has lived most of her life in the public, and since her divorce from Sonny in 1975, she has had many love affairs that included Kiss bassist Gene Simmons and actor-bartender Rob Camilletti. She also married the musician, Greg Allman, who is the father of her son, Elijah, now about 31.

Cher altered her nose and breast, but swears she has done nothing to her often exposed derriere. Her daughter, Chastity things with older age, her mom has gained some wisdom and calmness, which she definitely needed in January 1998 when Bono was first elected to Congress, and in 1994, died in a South Lake Tahoe skiing accident. She was terrified to deliver his eulogy afterwards.

Cher went on produce a TV special about their famous partnership. She admits she could not wait not be Sonny and Cher, but at the time, did not mind going back.

As I am a baby boomer from the music era of the 1970's, I remember Sonny and Cher quite fondly, and I did just love their song, “I Got You Babe. " It seemed to fit them perfectly.

On my web site of Arts and Entertainment you will find several articles written about the performers of the 1970's, if that is of interest to you, as it was and still is an interest of mine.
