Vanessa Hudgens, Jamie Chung & Jena Malone Interview For Zack Snyder’s ‘Sucker Punch’

Visitors: 248

Zack Snyder’s action-packed fantasy flick ‘Sucker Punch’ follows Baby Doll (Emily Browning), a young girl who’s been locked away against her will. Determined to fight for her freedom, she urges four other young girls—the outspoken Rocket (Jena Malone), the street-smart Blondie (Vanessa Hudgens), the fiercely loyal Amber (Jamie Chung) and the reluctant Sweet Pea (Abbie Cornish)—to band together and try to escape their terrible fate at the hands of their captors, Blue (Oscar Isaac), Madam Gorski (Carla Gugino) and the High Roller (Jon Hamm). ‘Sucker Punch’ hits cinemas March 25th in the US, and April 1st in the UK.

At the beginning of the whole process it must have been slightly daunting joining such a fantastical film?

Jena Malone: A little bit, I know some of the things they were saying before you auditioned was there’s gonna be quite a lot of physical training, it will quite intense, but I dunno, I’ve always had this part of me that felt like I could do things like that but I’d never been asked, or explored, or inspired to do that…I’d never even been to the gym before (laughs). I think it really brought out incredible beasts in us all. I know for me when I finished the film my strength level went up so so so so much!

Jamie Chung: We didn’t get to read the script until we were further in the auditions. But when there was word going around that Zack Snyder wanted to do a sort of female version of ‘300, ’ set in the 1960’s, everyone was jumping on it, how could you not get excited about it. For him to do a movie about females escaping their adversities and taking fate into their own hands, he’s the only one who can do it right, with all the action sequences, all the relationships.

Being in a film like this with all the physical training you had to do, that must have built up a bond between you all, and helped boost your confidence for the role?

Vanessa Hudgens: It totally does, it’s very empowering. I got to do it with four other amazing girls who were strong. When you do something and you’re stripped off all the makeup, all the looks, you put all that stuff aside, and you’re just putting your best foot forward, and you’re sweating together, you’re pouring your blood, heart and soul into these workouts (laughs), you can’t help but make this amazing bond. It was like I got paid to be in the bet shape of my life. I tried things I never thought I’d get to do.
