An adjustable bed is a bed that can be adjusted to a number of different positions. Adjustable beds are also called as Semi-fowler beds. These beds are similar to the beds seen in hospitals. The bed can be adjusted to various positions to suit the requirements of the user. People, who have medical conditions (usually spine problems) which require them to sleep in certain positions, use the adjustable beds to sleep more comfortably. Some people use the bed just to have a comfortable sleep. Adjustable beds relieve the strain on certain parts of the body and provide proper spinal alignment.

Adjustable beds can be altered into a comfortable position as per requirements of the sleeper. They are also very comfortable for reading or for watching TV in bed. The beds are also ideal for people who have bad sleeping problems due to stress, body strain or other body discomforts. The main benefit of the adjustable bed is that it can be molded according to the person´s body structure and it provides utmost comfort and relaxation. The beds are especially helpful for people who suffer from back problems.

Sleeping on an adjustable bed with a slight incline of 30 to 45 degrees may be very comfortable with the upper body positioned higher up than the lower body and some support under the knees to bend the knees at a slight angle. The combination of upper body incline and knee support helps take out stress off the lower back. This incline position can support the curves of the spine and back and it relieves the pressure on the entire body. Adjustable beds are very popular in hospitals and they are being widely used at homes because of its benefits.

Adjustable beds are available in two styles: standard or heavy-duty and they are made up of two components, one is base and the other is mattress. The mattresses are specially designed for adjustable beds to suit the human body structure and are more wear and tear resistant. There are beds that also are provided with adjustable rails on both sides.

The bed provide several health benefits and it ease back pain and swelling of the legs. The adjustable beds also relieve soreness of the body and sooth shoulder tension. They are used to provide relief to the neck, spine and knees. Adjustable beds are useful for people who suffer from the spondylolisthesis, osteoarthritis, spinal stenosis, asthma, phlebitis, varicose veins, and neck pain.
