1. Call
That's right. Calling in poker can be a weird mistake for many of the beginner Texas Hold'em gamblers. To call is of course a normal thing but many of the novice poker players do it for the wrong reason. Most often they call because they are uncertain as they just don't know what cards their opponent who placed the first bet has. If you are afraid in such situations or if you are not convinced you have good cards then you should better fold or just don't play Texas hold'em at all. Calling is generally a not very helpful approach. The usual actions you are supposed to take is to either raise or to bet. Calling is generally used as a strategical approach in the occasions when you want to save some money, but not to call with the single aim that you may make a stronger hand if some given cards happen to be drawed further in the turn. I.e. if you see you have a powerful hand and you are warrant you have great winning chances then you either raise or bet. Here are a couple of good reasons why you apply that approach:
- In case you aim to bluff so you can fluster your opposers.
- In case you want to make sure there will be at least a couple more players that will call or raise after you.
Don't get used to call. Play aggressively and provoke your opposers all the time. That is the usually how the money gets earned in Tehas Hold'em.
2. Go for serious wagers in the early rounds of the game.
To play Texas Hold'em with higher pledges may be really enjoyable and you can feel the tension. To take the pot in Texas Hold'em with $5 or $10 bets is very tempting especially if you haven't played on a such level before. To go to the higher stages of betting can be quite exciting but there is a chance it can happen to be a very big mistake in the same time. In case you rush in the game faster than needed then the likelihood for you lose your money is quite big as Texas Hold'em is pretty much a game of skills and takes time to be learnt.
Playing a small limit Texas Hold'em can be quite frustrating but if you realize it is hard for you to win even there then you better don't go to the higher level! I can guarantee that in case you aren't able win in a low limit Texas Hold'em then it will be pretty hard for you to win in a game with high or no limits. Once you step on a $5/$10 table or higher you will find yourself among a selected group of advanced players who have skills and aren't playing just for fun. So my advice is that you better gradually move from tables with small blinds to tables with higher ones. There is no need to hurry up. Take your time and gain the skills. You will later have time to go to tables with higher blinds when you will have higher winning chances and feel the glory of this gorgeous casino game.
3. Bluffing
Bluffing is a method in the poker game which the players use to perplex their opponents. The idea is of course to earn money but there is a problem with this tactics in low limit poker. There is no need to try to confuse your opponents as most of them are amateur gamblers and bluffing just doesn't work well. Of course there might be some occasions when bluffing can be an opportune approach but you better mostly play aggressively and forget about bluffing. Just put aggressive bets whenever you feel you have killer cards and high chances. Bluffing is a must but mostly for higher limit games. As more professional the tables become so more necessary bluffing becomes. So at the beginning start on small limit tables and leave bluffing for later!
